Expanding Offsite Through Components and Collaboration

The Common Chord with Sean Shields

April 7, 2026

One of the clearest takeaways is how offsite construction is already present in more projects than many realize. When Sean asked builders how many were using trusses, nearly everyone raised their hand. When asked how many were doing offsite, very few did. That gap is not about capability. It is about perspective.

Trusses are already a form of offsite construction. They represent a shared entry point for builders and manufacturers to build trust and begin thinking more holistically about the structure.

Collaboration Creates Better Outcomes

As the conversation unfolds, the focus shifts toward what happens when that trust expands. When builders and component manufacturers engage earlier and more openly, the structure becomes something that is coordinated rather than assembled piece by piece.

This allows for better alignment of load paths, more thoughtful material use, and a smoother installation process. It also reduces friction across teams, since more decisions are made with shared visibility. Instead of reacting to challenges in the field, teams are able to plan with greater confidence from the start.

Looking Ahead

The path forward for offsite construction is not just about advancing technology, but also about strengthening relationships across the industry.

Builders are navigating labor constraints, scheduling pressure, and increasing complexity. Component manufacturers are investing in new capabilities and capacity. The opportunity sits in the middle, where those efforts meet.

Sean captures that shift in a simple way. The goal is not to push a single product, but to help teams rethink how they approach the structure as a whole.
